William and Shari’s Key West Elopement at the Audubon House
There’s something uniquely magical about photographing destination weddings—especially the kind where every moment is on the move, every location is handpicked by fate, and every shot is a balance of spontaneity and intention. William and Shari’s intimate elopement in Key West, Florida, was exactly that kind of experience, but with an unexpected twist — and one we won’t soon forget.

from ship to shore:
An old town key west wedding photography stroll
Mark and I met the couple bright and early, just as they disembarked from their Norwegian Cruise Line ship. They were only in Key West for the day, which made for an exciting, fast-paced celebration with a bit of everything: sun, laughter, florals, and a love story that unfolded right before our cameras.
From the pier, we began our walk toward their venue, capturing candid moments along the way. The streets of Old Town Key West provided a charming backdrop as we strolled past pastel homes and palm-lined sidewalks. One of our first stops was the iconic Banyan Tree — its towering, intertwined roots and dappled light made for a romantic pause. We also took full advantage of the historic beauty outside the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum. The museum’s weathered brick and classic Key West architecture added texture and character as they made their way to where they would recite their vows and make their lifelong commitments to one another.
When we reached the classic white picket gate of Audubon House, it felt like the perfect storybook setting for an intimate wedding. The lush tropical gardens and historic architecture created a relaxed yet elevated atmosphere—ideal for capturing moments both grand and quiet. It was time for something truly special to begin. However, there was an unexpected circumstance that had developed. Shari, radiant in her bridal gown, was battling a wave of food poisoning that would have sidelined most. Her strength and grace were remarkable, and we worked together to ensure she was comfortable throughout the day. You may notice several portraits where she’s seated—this wasn’t just an artistic choice (although they turned out beautifully); it was a testament to her resilience. By alternating between roles as photographers and empathetic supporters of an ill bride on her wedding day, we were able to create images that honored her beauty and spirit, even in the most trying moments.
Upstairs in the Audubon House, Shari insisted on fulfilling one of her dream-list series of photos - a few backlit portraits in front of the grand, sun-filled open doors to an upper level balcony. The soft light wrapped around her like a veil, adding an ethereal glow that perfectly balanced the morning’s candid street shots.
gracefully Adapting to the unexpected during the wedding
The ceremony took place in the brick courtyard, where a path of white rose petals marked Shari’s walk toward William. Guests stood flanking the aisle, smiles on their faces and phones in hand. The floral arch by Conch Concierge Weddings framed the couple perfectly, a burst of color against the lush tropical greenery. Officiant Michael Vernon led a heartfelt ceremony, guiding William and Shari through their vows and ring exchange with a warmth that matched the Key West sun. When they sealed it with a kiss, Michael punctuated the moment with a joyful blast from his signature conch shell—always a crowd-pleasing flourish.
After the ceremony, Shari needed a break, and we took that opportunity to create a few serene porch portraits while Mark continued capturing family groupings and guest candids. That porch became a quiet little haven, and the images we created there are some of our favorites—calm, elegant, and full of the kind of emotion that only comes from a day so deeply felt.
meeting the moment: Shari Rallies for bridal portraits
As their wedding day continued after the ceremony, Shari rallied with impressive grace. With the hardest part behind her, she was able to enjoy those final moments of celebration at Audubon House. We followed the couple and their guests as they made their way toward Ocean Key for dinner, snapping farewell shots as they laughed and lingered along the waterfront. The golden light followed them down the dock, casting one last dreamy glow on a day that—despite the odds—was filled with beauty, connection, and unforgettable memories.
Beautifully capturing a wedding story when it goes off script
